Snatcher

my mind having been poisoned by chronic exposure to Hideo Kojima games, i experienced instant sexual arousal upon discovering that he also wrote some graphic adventure games. the first of those games was Snatcher, originally released in 1988.

Snatcher is a festive christmas game about being brutally murdered by robots in the cyberpunk future of Neo Kobe, c.2047. you are detective Gillian Seed, and your objective is to spread that seed touch and smell as many women as possible without their express consent, despite yourself being married (wait that's not any better at all). people are also getting bodysnatched and replaced by sickass terminator robots, but only in the winter and at night. as this presents a significant impediment to smelling women, a secret police force, nominally civilian but accountable only to military intelligence agencies, has been created to stop it.

*sniiifffff*

i played the mega/ sega cd port from 1994, as this is the only version to receive an international localization (outside an MSX fan translation). this is a partially voice-acted game, and the quality is on the same level as an especially-corny anime dub. it's a menu-driven adventure with limited animation and occasional surprise shooting sequences when the robots come to gecha. i got through it in a couple weekends and enjoyed it a lot. if you have the mental illness that makes you like watching weird old cyberpunk OVAs made during the Japanese asset price bubble, you'll like it too.

also i think one of the characters is 15 in japanese but 18 in the english localization. yes, Married Adult Man Gillian tries to touch on her. lmao :( aside from that it kind of reminds me of armitage iii (1995), mostly because the mc is a detective and has an equally ridiculous name.
